Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars

The return of Robert Downey Jr. was speculated for a few months. We often heard many rumours about Iron Man and Captain America returning to the MCU for a multiversal battle. 

After the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the MCU has been buzzing with groundbreaking news! Since Avengers’ Endgame, the superheroes never felt a multiversal threat. With Thanos gone, most fans bid goodbye to the OG Avengers. 

Most speculated that Kang the Conqueror would return in Avengers 5 or Avengers: Kang Dynasty. But recent changes of plans have been revealed by Marvel at Comic-Con. 

 

Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom

At Comic-Con, Robert Downey Jr. returned to the stage in the comic-accurate attire of Doctor Doom, revealing his face behind the metal mask. “New mask, same task”, he quoted. 

He aced at playing the role of Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man in numerous MCU projects. Since Tony Stark’s emotional demise in Avengers: Endgame, fans felt disappointed that the iconic actors were leaving the MCU with brand new heroes that the fans didn’t connect much with. 

To add to the happiness, the Russo brothers have agreed to direct Avengers: Doomsday! Russo brothers are an iconic duo who brought Avengers: Endgame to life, and they have returned for its much-awaited sequel/

Release date for Avengers: Doomsday

We know that the MCU will be ready with this project in 2026. Additionally, the movie will hit the theatres in May 2026. Russo brothers will direct this movie and probably Avengers Secret Wars as well. 

Yes, we know the wait is too long, but the MCU wants to establish the origin story of the Fantastic Four and their feud with Doctor Doom. 

 

Who is Doctor Doom? 

Doctor Doom, also known as Victor von Doom, is one of the most iconic and complex villains in the Marvel Universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, he first appeared in Fantastic Four #5 in 1962.

A brilliant scientist from Latveria, Doom was once a promising student but was scarred in a laboratory accident. Driven by a thirst for power and a desire to avenge his mother, he became a ruthless dictator of Latveria and a formidable adversary to the Fantastic Four.

Doom is often portrayed as a complex and tragic figure. While he is undoubtedly a villain, he possesses a strong sense of honour and a twisted code of ethics. His intelligence and technological prowess are unmatched.
